Blueberry Margaritas for Two

Even better by the pitcher!

Blueberry Margaritas – My New Best Friend

Drinks, Recipes |

Blueberry Margaritas
Move over Strawberry, Blueberry Margaritas are coming through!

These blueberry margaritas deserve your full attention!

The color. The sweetness. The salt. Everything comes together so well.

I highly recommend you try the drink with a little salt around the rim.

Listen, I’m a no-salt-on-my-margarita-glass-kind-of-woman.

But I gave it a try, and let’s just say I will always take a salt-rimmed glass when I’m drinking these blueberry margaritas.

And let’s talk simple syrup for a bit…

I’m quickly becoming a huge fan of simple syrup and all its variations.

I completely enjoyed simple syrup infused with rosemary in this Rosemary-Lemon Martini.  I’ve been reading about infusing with cinnamon, ginger and lavender and can’t wait to experiment with those versions.

Blueberry simple syrup is my most recent discovery.  Winner!

I whipped up a batch (it doesn’t take long).  I made sure to make extra so I could continue my margarita “research” throughout the week.

The inspiration for this cocktail came from a recipe I found on Food & Wine.

But when I read “muddle” and “strain” in the directions, I thought there has to be a better way.

Well, the blueberry simple syrup is the better way.

It’s especially convenient if you’re making these by the pitcher like we will for our upcoming Cinco De Mayo party.

I hope you and a good friend find these Blueberry Margaritas as tasty as we do!

 Enjoy!

Blueberry Margaritas for Two
Serves 2
Prep time 5 minutes
Cook time 15 minutes
Total time 20 minutes
Meal type Beverage
Slightly adapted from recipe on Food & Wine
Blueberry Margaritas with blueberry simple syrup is the perfect choice to push your gathering up a knotch. Make a pitcher, these blueberry margaritas rock!

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Fresh blueberries (may use frozen as well)
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Cup Water
  • 2 Ounces Fresh lime juice (Fresh is the best choice here)
  • 4 Ounces Tequila
  • 1/4 Teaspoon Orange extract
  • Ice to fill 2 margarita glasses
  • Salt for rimming glasses (Kosher salt works pretty well!)

Note

Blueberry Margaritas for two...or one!

Margaritas rock but these Blueberry Margaritas rock extra hard!  Take the extra step (less than 10 minutes) and make a blueberry simple syrup.  The color of these drinks yells "Celebration."  I usually pass on the salt rim for my margaritas but I'm telling you, the sale rim on these blueberry margaritas add so much to the flavor combinations.  Try it!  The inspiration for this recipe came from Food & Wine.  Their recipe called for orange bitters.  I didn't have any so I substituted orange extra.  Am I bad?  The drink is delicious so I think I did a good thing!

Enjoy - The Recipe Wench

Directions

Step 1
First make the blueberry simple syrup by combining blueberries, water and sugar in saucepan over medium heat.

Heat until sugar is dissolved and then simmer for another 10 minutes or so. You want to capture all that delicious blueberry flavor!

Allow to cool for about 10-15 minutes -- just so the syrup doesn't melt all your ice! Strain the blueberries from the syrup. (I like to press the blueberries gently to get all that blueberry flavor!)

This will make enough simple syrup for several margaritas. You need only 2 ounces per drink.
Step 2
While syrup is cooling, sprinkle (maybe) 1/4 cup kosher salt on a salad plate.

Run a lime around the rim of each margarita glass and place the glass (rim side down!) into the salt. Spin the glass so that the entire rim is covered with salt.

To make the margarita, fill the two salted margarita glasses with plenty of ice.

In a pitcher or other container, combine 2 ounces lime juice, 4 ounces of tequila, 4 ounces of simple syrup and 1/4 teaspoon orange extract. Stir.

Pour into the salted glasses and enjoy!

Believe it or not, I'm fairly new to the world of cocktails. We've lived in Italy for so long, it has been difficult to resist the red wine! But, yes, I'm TRYING to drink more cocktails these days. I can't believe I just said that!

Yes, I'm starting to long for summer too. Not necessarily the accompanying heat, but the longer days will be wonderful! I hope you enjoy these margaritas!

Hey congratulations on the pregnancy! I remember how bored I got with drinking . . . . JUICE when I was pregnant. Enjoy this blueberry concoction. Double up on the tequila when the time is right!
