Basil -- What a Delicious Herb

    Vodka Cocktail

My name is Bridget, and I am a fan of basil.

I've recently discovered basil is really good in margaritas.  I wondered how this beautiful herb would taste when combined with other spirits.  Turns out it is also great paired with vodka!

I found this recipe on Liquor.com and played around with it a bit.  I hope you find this cocktail as refreshingly delicious as we did!

The instructions contain the verbs "muddle" and "shake," but have no fear if you don't own a muddler or shaker!  Instead of "muddling," I "smashed."  I don't have a bartender's "shaker" so I used an old (clean!) plastic jar with a lid.

Wait no longer -- give this drink a try today!

    ENJOY!

    Basil, Cucumber & Lime Cocktail

Slightly adapted from recipe on Liquor.com
This basil, cucumber, lime, vodka cocktail is so refreshing and simple to make. Careful! It goes down fast!

    Ingredients

    • 4 Fresh basil leaves
    • 5 Slices of cucumber (¼ inch thick)
    • 4 Ounces Simple syrup (Make simple syrup by combining equal portions water and sugar. Heat until sugar dissolves. Store in fridge.)
    • 1 Large Juicy lemon
    • 1 Large Juicy lime
    • 4 Ounces Vodka

    Note

There's no need to buy any fancy bar equipment for this cocktail.  To "muddle" I used my Pampered Chef tool called the "mix and chop" and that worked perfectly.  You could use a potato masher.  I also don't own a shaker (yet) so I use a plastic jar with a lid.  When I strain the cocktail, I strain through a sieve.  Nothing fancy!

    Directions

    Step 1
Muddle basil and cucumber along with simple syrup.
    Step 2
Add juices from the lemon and lime.
    Step 3
    Add vodka.
    Step 4
Place all in shaker (or something similar) filled with ice and shake, shake shake. Strain into ice-filled rocks glasses. Garnish with a slice of cucumber.

I love basil, its my favorite herb. Good to know it goes well with vodka, too. :)
